Working With Levels of Consciousness
In the 1970s, Dr. David Hawkins began his work on calibrating individual levels of consciousness, as a scale of spiritual awareness. By using applied kinesiology (also known as muscle testing), he created a scale that goes from 0 of dead matter to 1000, the full consciousness of absolute realization, or God-self.
The structure of Hawkins’ scale of consciousness can be divided into 4 main levels. The levels from 20 to 200 is the realm of Ego, the victim-abuser consciousness of barely coping, which is the literal experience of hell on Earth. It is the realm of shame, grief, apathy, pride and anger.
The levels from 200 to 300 is the realm of purification and clearing, where more energy becomes available and one ceases to be a burden to society. At this stage, one gains more courage and neutrality to move into more heart-centered levels from 300 to 400. These are the levels of writers, artists, academics and intellectuals, and also a gradual opening to the inner light and inner wisdom.
Levels from 400 to 700 is what most would define as spiritual awakening. At these levels one begins to connect to their Higher Self, integrating the experiences of their soul group. It is the realm of heart opening, of transcending emotions and social conditioning, developing compassion and unconditional love and finally entering into Presence, the I AM awareness.
Finally, levels beyond 700 are different stages of enlightenment and ascension.
Hawkins assigned levels of consciousness to almost anything — music, works of art, world religions, countries, animals, systems of knowledge, and so on. It may seem a little naive to think that anything can be calibrated in this way — after all, the ascent of consciousness is rarely a linear journey. Even very advanced souls have to deal with negative energies simply by virtue of living on this planet. Nevertheless, Hawkins’ system is a useful tool in working on spiritual development.

In this podcast episode, I briefly explain each level, and the way it correlates with soul ages (from young to advanced souls)
We also talk about whether it is possible to descend down the scale, and some of the most common blocks present in each level.
Personally, I use the scale of consciousness as part of my Akashic Record readings.
